Update on my first SEO client – 2 months later, page 2 to page 1

Progress Update: How My First SEO Client Moved from Page 2 to Page 1 in Just Two Months

Back in August, I shared the initial journey of my first-ever SEO client. At that stage, the website’s search ranking was stuck around position 11—placing it on the second page of search results. This meant most potential visitors were never seeing the site, as visibility diminishes significantly beyond the first page. My focus then was on fixing this issue to improve rankings and overall performance.

Now, two months into the project, I’m excited to share the substantial progress made and what lies ahead.

Performance Metrics: The Last Three Months vs. The Previous Period

Here’s a comparative overview of key SEO metrics:

| Metric | Before | After (Last 3 Months) | Change |
|———|———|————————|——–|
| Clicks | 1,280 | 6,180 | +383% |
| Impressions | 158,000 | 634,000 | +301% |
| Average Position | 13.3 | 7.8 | +5.5 Positions |
| Click-Through Rate (CTR) | 0.8% | 1% | Slight Increase |

The most encouraging statistic is the average position, which has improved from approximately 13.3 to 7.8. While this isn’t a top position yet, it signifies that the website is now predominantly appearing on the second page—bringing us closer to the coveted front page.

Strategies Behind the Success

The improvements weren’t driven by anything particularly complex or groundbreaking. Instead, I relied on consistent content and technical best practices:

  • Content Clusters: Expanding on related topics, with each guide linking directly to the product page. This internal linking structure helps search engines understand the site’s thematic relevance.
  • Front-Loaded Answers: Ensuring that key information appears early in content, reducing the risk of burying important details beneath lengthy introductions.
  • Schema Markup: Implementing FAQ schema on multiple pages to enhance search listings with rich snippets.
  • Technical Precision: Providing accurate, detailed technical information in a niche where competitors often fall short. This not only boosts authority but also enhances user trust.

Additionally, I’ve taken over management of the client’s Google Business Profile and all content creation since August, streamlining oversight and ensuring consistency.

The Persistent Challenge: Low CTR Despite Better Rankings

Despite moving from page 2 to page 1, the click-through rate remains at around 1%. This stagnation suggests that while the site is more visible, the titles and meta descriptions may not effectively attract clicks or match what users are searching for.

Optimizing these elements will be my primary focus for the upcoming months. Crafting engaging, relevant titles and descriptions tailored to user intent is essential for converting improved rankings into actual traffic.

Reflection and Motivation

For those currently in the “flat growth” phase—say, around week six or seven—recognize that real progress often picks up in week seven or beyond. It’s a period of patience and relentless effort, but the results are worth the wait.

Final Thoughts

Two months into this project, the results reaffirm that consistent, strategic SEO practices can significantly shift a website’s visibility and performance. While there’s still work to do—particularly in boosting CTR—the trajectory is promising.

Thank you for taking the time to read this update. Stay tuned for more insights as I continue optimizing and refining the SEO strategy for my first client.
